As I mentioned ealier, there’s a large black heat sink held firmly by thermal paste atop the core. At normal running conditions all V7100 models anyway produce very little heat and the oversized heat sink helps in keeping the temperatures quite low. We were able to overclock the card up to 205MHz core and 200MHz memory without any special cooling.

At these speeds we didn’t experience any texture problems and the increase in heat levels were well sustained. An additional cooling fan blowing on the card will make even higher speeds achievable without a problem. Overall, significant performance increases were at the higher resolutions. But remember, overclocking carries a certain degree of risk and is something to be done with much caution or you’ll end up with a cooked up graphics card for dinner.

Benchmarks:

Well it’s pretty obvious that the MX card just whizzes pass the G450 in 3D applications. The GTS though, is in a class of it’s own. Nuff said!!

OpenGL benchmarking in the Quake III arena shows how well the MX performs, as a gamer’s card. It takes a comfortable second place behind the GTS.
