OCZ Agility 3 120GB Solid State Drive

Conclusion

The benchmarks speak for themselves; the OCZ Agility 3 SSD drive is truly one solid performer. The Agility 3 has certainly come a long way since OCZ introduced the Agility 2 series. Thanks to the Sandforce SF-2281 controller we can now reap the benefits from 6Gbps SATA interface, 525MB/s reads and 500MB/s writes. Before you go out and buy one of these drives with the hope of getting these blistering speeds however, make sure your SATA controller is capable of handling 6Gbps or it’ll end up running at 3Gbps which would mean you’ll only be getting half of the performance the drive can offer. OCZ has an extremely active and helpful user forum so if you have any questions ask before dishing out the dough.

On a performance perspective the Agility 3 lags behind the Vertex 3 quite marginally which on a day to day usage quite unlikely to be noticed unless of course you run synthetic benchmarks.

You should be able to pick up an Agility 3 120GB for around AU$230-260 price range which makes the cost per GB to be around the $2 mark which in today’s terms is a hefty price to pay. Solid state drives haven’t reached the price point we see from mechanical drives on a cost per GB point of view, nevertheless as demand and supply goes through its natural cycle I’m sure we will see prices coming down considerably. Overall the OCZ Agility 3 is a well rounded product which has struck a good balance between price vs performance and certainly comes with our recommendation.
