TDK Tremor S-150 Speaker System

Introduction

It’s 7 more days before Christmas folks. I decided to post this review mainly for all those last minute shoppers trying to find the perfect gift for their loved ones. Allow me to introduce you to TDK’s first ever speaker system the “Tremor” series. Today we’ll be looking at their top of the range product, the Tremor S-150. The S-150 retails for around $130, while they also produce two smaller versions for the more budget conscious folk. The Tremor series utilizes NXT’s breakthrough SurfaceSound™ technology along with high power multi-channel amplification and sub-bass technologies to achieve very high quality audio performance.

TDK, over the past have been synonymous with the manufacture of audio and video storage recording media. While they were a market leader in Optical as well as other storage mediums, TDK was never considered a competitor in the speaker industry. As of recently TDK has been concentrating heavily on the PC market, and they have some great products under their belt. The VeloCD re-writer they produce is considered to be one of the best writers out there in the market.

Initial impressions by looking at the S-150 can be deceiving. Some might like the space age feel they bring to your desktop and some might not. However after listening to these gems, I’m sure most of you will grab it at a flash. Before we go into the nitty gritty details, lets take a look at the S-150’s specifications.

Installation

As you open up the package you’re offered with two thin flat panel speakers. I must admit these were one of the thinnest satellites I had ever seen before. They’re about 2.5cm wide. (More on speakers later).

Installation is quite easy since all connectors have been color coded, and the speakers include the appropriate colored wiring to help out. The installation manual also does a very good job on detailing out everything any first time user might need to know, giving graphical explanations of almost every aspect of the installation process. Furthermore keep in mind to place the sub in some back corner of your room or in a corner of your table. This’ll give you the best bass response.

As illustrated in the pictures below, it shows the speaker placement for a 5-piece speaker system. Figuring out the placement for a 3-piece system certainly isn’t rocket science now is it?
