Logitech Squeezebox Version 3

The Squeezebox V3 (SB-V3) is Slim Device’s 3rd release of the Squeezebox which was first released way back in 2003. We didn’t have the privilege of reviewing the earlier models; nevertheless it would seem the company is doing something right considering Logitech bought them over recently.

The Squeezebox v3 comes in a very attractive packaging even though our unit had a few scratches on the box during transit.

The box also gives a good description of the specifications for the unit along with how it can be used in your home environment. This is good for everyone not technically savvy and allows for a very informative purchase decision.

From looking at the size of the box we weren’t expecting the Squeezebox to be that big, which is a definite good thing. Opening the box you’re offered a well packaged Squeezebox along with a separate box containing RCA cables, batteries for the remote, power adapter and user manual. A network cable is not provided however, so make note of this if you plan to use this connected via a network cable. The Squeezebox V3 is offered in two models; one which offers both wired and wireless connectivity and the other which offers only wired connectivity. The wired version is around $50 cheaper than the WiFi enabled one so you can save some money if your budget is limited.

Kudos goes to the designers of this unit as it looks absolutely awesome. With a contemporary sleek back finish the Squeezebox will blend with pretty much any surrounding. As you can see the unit does not contain any switches or buttons on the exterior making it even more interesting.

The unit we received had a much nicer looking remote than units I have seen around the web. It has the Logitech logo which means after the takeover Logitech has redesigned the remote to a much sleeker looking one. They have made the remote a lot thinner and given it a glossy black finish. The redesigned remote is miles ahead in style in contrast to the previous design. All functionality of the Squeezebox can be accessed through the remote from setting it up, creating play lists, adding favorites and many more.

Taking a look at the back of the Squeezebox you’re offered with all the audio connectivity options as well as network and power connectors. You have 4 audio output options to choose from; namely headphone, RCA, Digital Optical and Digital Analog outputs.

Overall the exterior looks of the Squeezebox is simply excellent and build quality is above average; a true testament to Slim Devices and Logitech’s superior market presence.

Alright let’s take a look at installation of the Squeezebox.
