However why go through all that trouble when there’s ready made cabling that you can buy at very reasonable price point. Not sure why 1stPlayer decided on the “steampunk” branding for these sleeved cabling as there’s nothing that insinuates “steampunk” on the design. Nevertheless moving past the name, lets take a closer look at these sleeved cables.
The 1stPlayer branded box gives a slight glimpse of the cables inside so buyers can see the product before purchasing.
The box isn’t very flashy in design, however offers the basic information you would need such as the cable length and wire gauge in the rear of the box.
The package consists of the following cables:-

The review package we received from 1stPlayer offered a cable length of 35cm, however they do offer varying lengths to meet differing demands. Before you make a purchase of these sleeved cables or any other for that matter, make sure you have measured up the inside of your case factoring for cable management as well.
Weave Quality
The close-up images of the sleeving shows a very tight weave which makes these cables look more towards PET sleeving than nylon. They are really well constructed and for a new entrant to the market, this is certainly a job well done.
The cables have a 3-layer design as shown below to ensure durability and provide the best level of conductivity.
One of the common problems with lower quality sleeved cabling is that once installed they never tend to stay in place making them look pretty awful. That’s not the case with the 1stPlayer Sleeved cables as we found them to stay in place exactly as installed. The 24-pin connector also comes with its own cable comb to provide the neatest finish to your cable installation. 1stPlayer includes additional cable combs in the package as below:-
- 24pin *2
- 8pin *6
- 6pin *4
The cables are flexible enough to route them through cable management and we didn’t encounter any difficulty during our installation process.
