DLink DCS-4705E : Vigilance 5MP Day & Night Outdoor Mini Bullet PoE Network Camera
As we have seen in the recent past, D-Link are vigorously promoting their home security related products as we saw with their D-Link DCS-8600LH Full HD Wi-Fi Outdoor Camera, D-Link OMNA Wire-Free Indoor/Outdoor Camera Kit and the D-Fend AC2600 smart WiFi router. Today we’re going up a notch and looking at the DLink DCS-4705E from their Vigilance range.
D-Link’s Vigilance range provides an affordable and adaptable surveillance solution for commercial institutions. All cameras offer HD resolution and utilize Power Over Ethernet (POE) for easy installation. Even though these are commercial grade equipment, there’s absolutely no harm for home users to take advantage of them.
There are few things to consider when purchasing an IP camera and each aspect has its own merit and reasons behind them. For example,
1. Do you go with a Turret (Eye Ball), Dome or Bullet camera
2. What type of lens to go with – 2.8mm, 3.6mm, 4mm
3. IP based or non IP based
4. POE or non-POE etc
These are some of the decisions that go into when one thinks of setting up a surveillance system, however we will not be going into detail on these aspects since there’s plenty of documentation online. Here’s a quick run down of what the D-Link DCS-4705E bullet camera has on offer.

A 2.8mm lens offers a wider field of vision hence covers a wider area however with the compromise of quality on objects that require more focus. For example, say you got this camera installed on your drive way. It’ll be good at providing a wide angle view of what’s going on up front, however capturing the license plate of a car further down will be tougher than with a 3.6mm lens. Hence it’s important to understand the type of application you will be using the cameras for before going about purchasing them.
We do like the fact that D-Link offers a lifetime warranty on these devices, proving their confidence in the quality of their products.
