Silver Trak Digital wins Best 5G Mobile Solution at 2023 ACOMM Awards
SYDNEY, 17 August 2023 – Silver Trak Digital has won the Best Mobile Solution award for its 5G Cinema Direct content delivery service at this year’s ACOMM Awards. This award was specifically for the use of Silver Trak’s Cinema Direct technology to deliver live a Don Quixote event, for the first time, for the Australian Ballet to cinemas across Australia over the Telstra 5G network earlier this year.
Silver Trak Digital developed the Cinema Direct 5G solution in partnership with Telstra and with support from Cradlepoint 5G solutions, so that cinemas can easily connect to one of the largest global professional content interchanges.
The performance of Don Quixote was managed over Telstra’s Internet Delivery Network (IDN) using Telstra’s best of breed 5G technology to deliver the content to cinemas from Telstra partner 5Stream Streaming Solutions. To fulfil the content delivery requirements for the event, Silver Trak Digital and Telstra took the live production feed and distributed it to participating cinemas with the Cinema Direct technology installed in real time. This unique live broadcast event also proved that it was now possible to get professional grade content into any and all cinemas, regardless of location, using 5G cellular connectivity.
Cinema Direct is a live delivery platform that is ubiquitous, is the only one fully managed and monitored by Australia’s largest broadcast managed services provider and Australia’s largest telecommunications provider.
Cinemas can book Cinema Direct 5G through Silver Trak Digital and use the system by simply plugging their projector into the HDMI port. The Cinema Direct 5G platform is also capable of the highest quality output – up to 4K DCI, 60 fps and HDR – not to mention multiple audio options.
Silver Trak orchestrates the content partnerships through its bookings portal, while Telstra Broadcast Services, who have specialist 24×7 broadcast master control teams in Australia and around the world, handle the booking and the live stream. They keep it on their network and guarantee it the entire way, by targeting the cinemas using their industry-grade IDN broadcast interchange platform.
Cinema direct delivers the content using a specialist configuration of 5G cellular running on high grade modems and antennas, as well as 5G Adapters from Cradlepoint.
Cradlepoint 5G Wideband Adapters are used to achieve optimal 5G reception at any location. The W1850 5G Wideband Indoor Adapters are used where a 5G signal is acquirable indoors, as well as the W2005 5G Wideband Outdoor Adapter, which gives Silver Track Digital more flexibility in deploying 5G capacity-layer connectivity for buildings and fixed sites.
Cradlepoint 5G Wideband Adapters also feature mobile wizard-based installation application for optimal set up and signal acquisition as well as zero-touch deployment and day-1 broadband. Individual cinemas can get up and running quickly without on-site IT staff.
Now in its 17th year, the annual ACOMM Awards for excellence in telecommunications are a nationally recognised and unmissable occasion on the comms events calendar. This national showcase of the industry’s achievements is proudly presented by Communications Alliance and offers a unique opportunity to applaud and support excellence and innovation in Australia’s communications ecosystem.
