Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED

Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Mouse

Few weeks ago we looked at Logitech‘s G915 LIGHTSPEED wireless keyboard. What a better way to compliment the G915 with it’s true counterpart the Logitech G502 Gaming Mouse. Revamping one of the iconic & loved gaming mice Logitech had ever released, the G502 LIGHTSPEED improves on an old classic design by throwing more tech at to make it wireless, lighter and faster.

Lets take a quick peak at the specs and move onto a closer look of the unit.

The G502 LIGHTSPEED – Unboxing

Being a top of the line gaming mouse, you do get the premium feeling right from the start. The retail packaging is very professionally done in both front and rear design.

Opening up the box, the G502 LIGHTSPEEDS sits grandly in the center; you got to love the detail Logitech have gone to provide that premium feeling.

Additional accessories

Under the G502 LIGHTSPEED, you’re offered with a braided micro USB charging cable, mouse weights, USB wireless receiver and user manual.

Design and Usability

The Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED is virtually identical in design to the Logitech G502 HERO wired gaming mouse without the wire of course. Given the popularity of the G502 Hero it’s not surprising Logitech wanted to throw in their engineering excellence to make an already great mouse even better. The G502 LIGHTSPEED is not only wireless, Logitech have managed to make it lighter with the mouse weighing only 114 grams compared to 121 grams of the G502 Hero.

The Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED is quite a large mouse yet has a very ergonomic shape. You get a U-shaped thumb rest with nice curvature to comfortably hold the mouse in both claw and palm grips. The elongated buttons are a nice design which would help people with smaller palms as well.

Make note that this is a right handed gaming mouse, so all you lefties out there, sorry this mouse isn’t for you unfortunately.

Logitech provides an additional 16g of weights in the form of 2 x 4g weights and 4 x 2g weights allowing you to customize the weight of the G502 LIGHTSPEED to your preference.

For portability a compartment is available to place the USB receiver as well which also holds the two 4g weights.

Button Customizations

Another great feature of the G502 LIGHTSPEED is the wide array of customizable buttons available which can be updated via the Logitech GHUB software. All the buttons are well placed and easily customizable for both gaming and productivity requirements.

The rubber scroll wheel can easily toggle between free spinning and clicky functionality by pressing the button right below the scroll wheel. Personally I would have loved to see the scroll wheel functionality similar to the Logitech MX Master 3 where the scroll wheel automatically toggles between the two modes without having to press any button.

The scroll wheel incorporates 3 other functions; i.e middle click, scroll left or right, all of which can be customized as needed.

Mouse Feet

The mouse feet are made of PTFE and provides decent gliding performance on both mouse pads and directly on a table surface. Logitech claims the feet are good for 250kms however, there are no additional feet provided. Nevertheless they are easily available on Amazon or eBay should you wish to replace them at a later point.

Gaming Performance

With the HERO™ 25K sensor capable of toggling between 100 – 25,600 DPI and 125 – 1,000 Hz polling rates, the Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED provides plenty of options for gamers of any kind of genre. Having the DPI button right in front of your thump allows for quick adjustments during gameplay if you wanted to quickly switch into sniper mode or any other situation which requires greater accuracy.

With 11 customizable buttons, you won’t be left hanging dry trying to prioritize which functions you want to add onto the mouse. We didn’t experience any kind of lag during any of the games we played and the LIGHTSPEED technology proved its worth.

The G502 LIGHTSPEED is functional even if the micro USB cable is attached which is great if you are running low on battery.

Battery Life and Software Bundle

The battery life on the G502 LIGHTSPEED is amazing to say the least. Without RGB lighting we managed a full week with around 7 hours of use daily. Still there was around 30% battery life left when we put the unit to charge. With RGB options enabled however, we saw this drop to around half. Regardless, the battery life on this unit is simply awesome, and given that the mouse will continue to function even while charging, makes battery life concerns a non-issue.

If you really wanted to be fully wireless, the G502 LIGHTSPEED is compatible with the Logitech POWERPLAY charging mat. If you can afford to shell out the extra cash, you certainly won’t regret this upgrade given the long term convenience offered.

The Logitech G Hub software allows for a significant array of customizations from buttons to lighting and sensitivity options. If you got compatible hardware, all of them will be listed soon as you open up the G Hub software.

You can certainly spend a great deal of time fine tuning settings to your desire and the G Hub software provides and easy and intuitive interface to get everything done without a huge learning curve.

The software also allows for multiple profile creation allowing quick setting changes for different games or productivity scenarios.

Conclusion

Is the Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED one of the best wireless gaming mice to hit the market? Well in our opinion, it certainly ticks all the boxes, provided you can afford it. It’s one of the most versatile wireless gaming mice we have reviewed and there’s hardly anything significant to fault from a design or technology perspective.

The only drawback here is its price and if you add on the POWERPLAY charging mat, the cost soon builds up. However if you can manage to go past this, the G502 LIGHTSPEED will be one awesome upgrade you certainly won’t regret. It’s functional, comfortable and delivers on performance as Logitech advertises
