D-Link A/NZ launches new Unified Wireless AC1300 Wave 2 Outdoor PoE Access Points
SYDNEY, 28 January 2021 – D-Link A/NZ has launched two new high-speed Access Points, the DWL-6720AP Unified Wireless AC1300 Wave 2 Outdoor PoE Access Point with Built-In Antennas and the DWL-8720AP Unified Wireless AC1300 Wave 2 Outdoor IP67 Rated PoE Access Point with External Antennas – both for their DWC-1000 and DWC-2000 Unified Wireless Controllers.
The DWL-6720AP is an outdoor Dual-Band Wireless AC1300 Access Point designed specifically for deployment in business and campus environments. It can be installed on a wall or pole, is IP55-compliant and is designed to operate in outdoor environments. For easy installation, it has integrated 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) support allowing installation in areas where power outlets are not readily available. Highly manageable and capable of blazing speeds, the DWL-6720AP integrates seamlessly into an existing network infrastructure and can be easily scaled to meet future demands.
The DWL-6720AP provides unparalleled connectivity by using a 2×2 antenna implementation, allowing high combined data rates of 1267 Mbps (AC867 Mbps + N400 Mbps) over the air. With its 802.11ac technology, the DWL-6720AP provides the high performance over two bands so wireless clients can stream media faster and farther than before using existing devices.
When working in conjunction with D-Link Unified Switches and Controllers, the DWL-6720AP can be centrally managed. This allows for a large number of APs to be deployed and managed easily and efficiently. Once the APs are discovered by the switch or controller the administrator can push specific configuration sets on to them rather than having to do so individually. In addition, RF resource management and security are also managed centrally, allowing the administrator to pre-emptively identify potential deficiencies and weaknesses in a network.
When a number of Access Points are deployed close to each other, interference may result if proper RF management isn’t implemented. Thus when a DWL-6720AP senses a “neighbour” nearby, it will automatically select a non-interfering channel. This greatly reduces RF interference and will allow the administrator to deploy APs more densely. To further minimise interference, when a nearby AP is operating on the same channel, the DWL-6720AP will automatically lower its transmission power2. Then, for whatever reason, the nearby AP is no longer present, the DWL-6720AP will increase its transmission power to expand coverage.
The DWL-6720AP supports 802.1p Quality of Service (QoS) for enhanced throughput and better performance of time-sensitive traffic like VoIP and streaming DSCP. It is also WMM-certified, so in the event of network congestion, time-sensitive traffic can be given priority ahead of other traffic. Furthermore, when a number of DWL-6710AP units are in close proximity to each other, an access point will refuse new association requests once its resources are fully utilised, allowing the association request to be picked up by a neighbouring unit and ensuring that no single AP is overburdened while others nearby sit idle.

The DWL-8720AP is part of the D-Link DWL Series of Unified AC Wave 2 Wireless Access Points which are designed for medium to large-sized enterprises. They provide unparalleled bandwidth and flexibility for administrators looking to deploy a medium to large scale Wi-Fi network with manageable dual-band wireless LAN options and utilise the cutting-edge speed of Wireless AC Wave 2. They can be centrally managed via D-Link Unified Wireless Controllers or operate in standalone mode.
The DWL-8720AP comes with five main features to maintain super-fast data speeds,
even at peak usage times.
Firstly, Band Steering. The 5GHz band is the fast lane of your Wi-Fi and Band Steering automatically drives capable devices such as smartphones or tablets onto the 5GHz band, delivering them a better experience, especially in situations such as HD video streaming or VoIP.
Then, MU-MIMO which is the ultimate weapon in handling congestion by being able to support more simultaneous streams of data. Your DWL-8720AP Access Points can serve more people at the same time which means less waiting time all-round.
It also features Load Balancing to help redress the balance as connections are shared out fairly to surrounding Access Points, avoiding any single point in your Wi-Fi becoming overwhelmed and giving a steady, consistent connection for every user.
The DWL-8720AP features beamforming technology which continuously optimises the wireless signal, focusing and it towards receiving devices and following them enhancing spectral efficiency and link quality.
Finally the DWL-8720AP features Fast Roaming and built in 802.11k technology which makes roaming seamless as it maps out APs in the surrounding areas, ready to make the switch immediately to a new closer, stronger connection even when staff are on the move.
Video conference calls and VoIP are the mainstay of any busy office. At busy times though time-sensitive traffic such as those can struggle with timely delivery resulting in interrupted streaming and calls dropping off. However, with the DWL-8720AP’s Quality of Service feature, time-sensitive data is intelligently prioritised over other traffic such as email or web browsing, ensuring seamless calls and video.
The DWL-8720AP’s versatile management significantly cuts down configuration and management time, making life easier for IT admins. When paired with a highly capable Unified Wireless Controller — such as the DWC-2000 — the DWL-8720AP can be managed remotely, with no need for onsite configuration. This means you can roll out new configurations or keep your AP’s firmware up-to-date easily with remote batch configuration as there’s no need to do it one by one.
As an outdoor-ready AP, the DWL-8720AP is designed with an IP67 ingress protection rating. This means it is completely protected against harmful dust and exceptionally resistant to water. On top of that, it is highly resilient, being able to operate in unexpectedly high or low temperatures.
For extra convenience the DWL-8720AP is designed for rapid deployment, bringing connectivity quickly to where you need it. It is Power over Ethernet (PoE) ready, allowing for external installations where power outlets can be tricky to come across. Furthermore, it can either be pole or wall mounted, so you can quickly deploy it and gain high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity outside as well as inside.

1 Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE standard 802.11 and draft 802.11ac specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. Environmental factors will adversely affect wireless signal range.
2 This feature is available when Unified Access Point is used in conjunction with D-Link’s line of Unified Wireless Switches/ Controllers.
