DCS-8330LH Smart Full HD Wi-Fi Camera:

The day and night time picture quality of the camera were pretty good. Day time pictures are generally always good in most cameras but it’s the night time picture quality that’s lacking in most. The DCS 8330LH camera has decent night time picture quality and capable of 30fps video even at night.

The camera is capable of 30fps and we didn’t encounter any lag when viewing live video via the camera.

Overall for the price of this kit, the performance and capability of the camera is impressive. The speaker included with the camera is quite large as well, hence any 2-way voice conversation is quite clear and loud.

Smart Door/ Window Sensor (DCH-B112)

The door sensor worked flawlessly and activated instantly the door was opened and closed. You can press the large button on the sensor if you wanted to bypass the trigger temporarily to avoid false alarms. The sensors are light weight and small making them discreet. The 3M tape is quite strong and bonds well to its surface.

Smart Motion Sensor (DCH-B122)

Even though the sensor is small and light weight, you’d be surprised the range this motion sensor has and detects even the slightest movement. The sensor worked flawlessly both during the day and night.

Only drawback to the motion sensor is that you cannot disable the motion sensor during the time you’re inside the home. This is a pity and unless you install the sensor maybe at the entry of your premises or a location where there’s low traffic, you’re bound to get countless alerts coming through.

Conclusion

At AUD299 the D-Link Smart DIY Security Kit (DCS-8331KT) is a great startup bundle for most home users looking for a quick DIY security solution without the hefty price tags.

The kit offers decent performance and offers features that are extremely useful to the average user, especially around the AI-based IVA Motion Detection.

D-Link have slowly designed their own home automation and security ecosystem in the recent past and this kit is an evolution of their roadmap. It makes sense to go with one provider as it allows you to do fancy stuff within your home.

You can daisy chain complex actions through the mydlink App. Here’s an example. Say you got a few DSP-W118 smart WI-FI plugs, and the DCS-8331KT kit, you can configure the actions such that when the motion sensor detects a motion, you can turn on lights via the DSP-W118 or turn on the TV/Radio to give any intruder the sense that someone’s home. You can also trigger the camera to start recording. Limitation is your imagination and what you want accomplished during certain conditions.
