HyperX Alloy FPS RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
Performance and Conclusion
No mechanical gaming keyboard review will be complete without some testing on FPS games. We put the keyboard through our usual tests on Apex Legends, Battlefield V and Far Cry 5. Our overall experience has been very positive. The shorter actuation point of the switches along with its low operating force meant that our movements were quicker and especially effective when dodging enemy fire.
On the opposing side, we on rare occasions found unintentional key presses even while slightly resting our hands on the keyboard. This is something you need to be mindful of with Kailh silver speed switches. Other than that, we found the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB to be very responsive and never missed a beat in some of the fastest action sequences that demanded precise movement.
Day to day typing
Unless you’re an eSport professional, you would be using this keyboard for typing and browsing the web. With these linear Kailh silver speed switches we found typing to be effortless, and in some instances slightly too much. Personally I prefer Logitech’s Romer-G tactiles or MX Blues purely as my goto switch types for typing. The key characteristics that make these Kailh silver speed switches great for gaming, tends to make it mediocre for typing. That’s not to say they are bad for typing, it’s just that you may end up double pressing characters affecting your WPM rate.
Conclusion
At the price tag of AU$189 (At the time of writing) the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB is price matched perfectly for the gaming community. As the name suggests, this keyboard is primarily focused on FPS gamers out there as that’s where its core strength is exposed; Kailh silver speed switches. Without a doubt these switches within FPS gaming will give you that edge over the competition.
If you’re an average gamer that will use this keyboard 50% of the time for typing as well, it will take some getting used to as per the points we have covered before. With its impressive RGB capabilities, good software support and solid build quality we truly love the overall performance this keyboard offers. Above all, if you’re an FPS gamer, you simply can’t go wrong with the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB.
