DLink DWL-7620AP AC2200 Wave 2 Tri-Band PoE Access Point
Unboxing and closer look
As per most DLink business grade products, the DLink DWL-7620AP does not come in any flashy packaging. All you get is a sticker with the model number and key details along with the DLink logo in the center.
Opening up the box, along with the DWL-7620AP you’re offered a user manual CD, mounting screws. Admittedly DLink do not include a separate power adapter with the device since the expectation is for the customer to utilize POE capabilities offered by the DWL-7620AP.
2 x Gigabit Ethernet ports are built into the device and what’s impressive is that it supports Link Aggregation. This allows you to combine the two Gigabit Ethernet ports to act as a single port effectively doubling the available bandwidth and maximize the overall throughput of the access point.
LAN 1 port is POE capable which allows you to power it via either a POE injector or POE switch.
There’s also a console port if you wanted to configure the router via a SSH terminal.
The unit also comes with attachments to secure the access point on a wall or on the ceiling. There’s no ideal location for placing an access point, and placement should ideally be after a proper site survey. Nevertheless it’s great to have this flexibility.
There are 6 LED lights that act as status indicators for the DLink DWL-7620AP. By default the second 5Ghz wireless channel is disabled and needs to be turned on if you plan on using it. The unit has a dimension of 20.5cm which isn’t too large and can fit discreetly into the surroundings.
