DLink DCS-4605EV – Vigilance 5MP Mini Dome PoE Network Camera
In-depth look at the DLink DCS-4605EV & Installation
The DLink DCS-4605EV is offered in similar packaging to the DCS-4705E. D-Link’s focus here is not on the fancy packaging, rather providing the best performance to commercial establishments. As we can see, the packaging is very basic and simply provides the model number, device serial number etc on the outside.
Opening up the box, you’re offered the DCS-4605EV, mounting screws, and a template sticker to easily drill your mounting points.
The camera is IK10 certified which is the highest impact protection a device can be rated at. At this rating the camera housing is able to withstand impacts of upto 5kg from a 40cm distance. The outer casing is made of metal and it feels quite sturdy and robust.
Included with the mounting screws is an Alan key which allows you to open up the camera dome to adjust the camera direction, attach a micro SD card or install the mounting screws to the housing.
You can adjust the angle of the camera lens and direction. The knob highlighted allows you to adjust the camera lens to it’s desired position.
The micro SD card slot isn’t placed in the easiest of positions to insert a micro SD card into it. Unless you really look for it, chances are you’ll not even notice the slot is there. Nevertheless the slot supports upto 2TB micro SD cards that enables one to record snapshots and video without a separate NVR.
Night Vision
The DCS-4605EV has 4 built in IR Leds that enable it to see during night time. The IR LED lights turn on automatically based on surrounding conditions.
The camera is also IP66 rated which means it’s dust proof as well as protected from high pressure water jets from any direction. Rest assured you won’t have any trouble installing this camera outside exposed to all elements of nature.
Installation
Since the DCS-4605EV supports POE, installation is a breeze. We won’t go through the whole installation once again as it’s pretty much the same steps as the DCS-4705E which you can read about here. The camera supports ONVIF technology allowing you to use a myriad of supporting NVR products out there in the market. The D-ViewCam (DCS-100) software is included with this camera and from start to finish we didn’t encounter any issues setting up the camera via the software.
