DLink DCS-4705E : Vigilance 5MP Day & Night Outdoor Mini Bullet PoE Network Camera
Performance and Conclusion
We tested the DLink DCS-4705E during day time and night to compare results. One issue we observed was that when we changed the bit rate to anything above 2.5Mbps the DLink DCS-4705E would not perform smoothly. The video would get choppy every few seconds; hence we had to scale down to ensure smooth recording. The camera was able to handle 2560×1920 @ 15fps however we found the DLink DCS-4705E would work best at 1660 resolution.
With the 2.8mm lens the DLink DCS-4705E easily captures a wide area. As seen below the resolution during day time is pretty impressive.
It is able to capture a wide area of detail without any issue.
Further tests during day time show that the DLink DCS-4705E offers rock solid performance with great clarity.
Some of the best performing cameras out there do struggle when it comes to nigh time performance. The night time performance of the DLink DCS-4705E isn’t flawless however is within very acceptable standards.
Below image again was taken in complete darkness. Due to the IR LED lights, background lights further away are emphasized beyond normal. The image below in actual effect was taken in complete darkness, however thanks to the night vision capabilities of the DLink DCS-4705E the area looks sharp and clear.
At a distance of over 20 feet the camera is able to clearly identify an object / intruder.
Final thoughts
The DLink DCS-4705E has proved to be quite a capable performer. It offers some of the most sort after features one would look for in a commercial grade IP camera and performed flawlessly during our testing. Apart from the minor quirks of recording in high bit rates the DLink DCS-4705E turned out well.
Since it supports POE and is ONVIF compliant, you can easily integrate the camera with a supporting NVR with built in POE capabilities. Installation wise, there were no surprises and everything went off smoothly. Just be aware that the unit does not come with its own power supply, so if you don’t plan on using POE you’d need to get your own power supply. But why one would do that is beyond me when you have the convenience of using POE.
The only concern we have with the DLink DCS-4705E is from a price point. Given it’s a very competitive market DLink have decided to place themselves in the top tier of the price bracket. Nevertheless purely from a functional perspective we truly love the capabilities of the DLink DCS-4705E and hope to see more great products from their Vigilance range.
