Opening up the box, along with the camera you’re offered a software CD containing the NVR recording software, mounting screws. Interestingly D-Link have decided not to include any power adapter with the DCS-4705E. This is fine given that most commercial enterprises will be taking advantage of the Power Over Ethernet capability this camera offers.
As you can see the DCS-4705E is a mini bullet IP camera. The camera has a very solid and sturdy feel to it and the whole outer construction is made of metal.
The rotatable mounting bracket can be taken off for easier installation and allows you to rotate the camera to your desired position.
Infrared LED Lights
There’s 15 infrared lights at the front of the camera to provide good quality night vision. The lights come on automatically depending on the lighting conditions. The DCS-4705E has a built in IR-cut filter which enables it to provide sharp grayscale video in low lighting conditions.
The included allen key allows you to open up the DCS-4705E, however there’s no real reason to do so apart from having to replace some internal component. There’s a small bag of silica gel which we believe is to absorb any moisture that could build up inside the unit when installed outdoors.
The camera is fitted with a powerful system on chip which allows it to compress video in real-time in H.265, H.264 and MJPEG formats. H.265 is one of the newest video compression standards and offers better quality while using significantly lower network bandwidth.
To make the installation process simpler, D-Link offers a sticker template guide which you can paste in the desired installation location allowing you to accurately screw your mounting points.
