Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 memory
Closer look at the modules
The modules are shipped in a hard flip case with the typical Ballistix Elite branding. A clear triangular window gives us a glimpse of the modules within the packaging. The rear of the case provides some additional branding along with the benefits of the Ballistix Elite memory modules.
Opening up the box the modules are further enclosed in a plastic cover and also included is a limited lifetime warranty certificate.
Taking a closer look at the Ballistix Elite modules, visually they offer a very minimalistic and simple design. It’s certainly interesting to see Crucial revamping these Ballistix Elite modules in terms of its internal performance capabilities, but decided to keep the aesthetics pretty much the same as their older modules.
You find the thick black anodized heatsink with its rugged edges that gives the Ballistix Elite modules its military type styling. The heatsink itself is a 3 piece design with the center heatsink being printed with the “Elite” logo.
Crucial’s decision to provide no RGB or any sort of LED option with these new Ballistix Elite DDR4 modules could go either way. There are users who absolutely want nothing to do with any RGB lighting on their rigs and for them the aesthetics of these modules will certainly appeal well. However if your on the other side of the spectrum, then Crucial’s Sport or Tactical series may have more appeal, even though you will miss out on the performance aspect.
From Crucial’s point of view, them wanting to keep a clear distinction between their high performance series from the rest of the lineup in understandable, however they would be missing out on part of the market segment by doing so.
However the minimalistic design does have a professional and sleek look to it and on the right motherboard they certainly will stand out. Nevertheless we should in no way undermine the winning combination Crucial has built on their Ballistix Elite modules. The thick heatsink on top with ventilation gaps in between the center heatspreader allows these modules to not fail under heavy load and stress.
The Ballistix Elite DDR4 modules we’re looking at today offers upto an impressive 3600Mhz clock speed with CAS Latency timings of 16-18-18 at 1.35v.
