OMNA DCS-2802KT Wire Free Security Camera Kit
Conclusion
Improvement suggestions
- The mydlink application can sometimes timeout when trying to connect to a camera. This seems very much software related and we’d hope to see D-Link improving the provided app.
- When using a Micro-SD card as your storage option, when a push notification is received on your mobile it shows a white screen for the screen grab on the notification panel rather than the actual picture. This does not occur when your storage option is Cloud.
- We’d like to see the app allow users to store video content both locally and on the cloud, not one or the other.
- We’d like to see more secure attachment brackets.
- Lastly we’d like to see the mydlink application to have a faster startup.
Conclusion
Having used the OMNA DCS-2802KT camera kit for just over 3 weeks now we are truly impressed. Did we mention the Alexa and Google Assistant support? Yes that’s right, the OMNA wire free cameras are smart devices capable of interacting with either an Amazon Alexa device or Google Assistant. Since we already had an Amazon Echo plus and a Fire TV stick connected to a TV, once the cameras are integrated you could simply say “Alexa who’s at the front door” and your TV will turn on and display the camera feed through your TV. Now how cool is that?
If you’re on a budget and looking for a feature rich security system, the OMNA DCS-2802KT is undoubtedly a very decent kit to lay your hands on. The ease of installation alone is not to be taken lightly. A hard wire camera could see you pocketing out around $150 per camera to an electrician which becomes a total saving with the OMNA Wire Free camera kit.
The kit offers very decent picture quality, offers PIR motion detection, free premium cloud storage for 12 months and rated IP65. Offered at a price tag of $799 it’s certainly on the higher side of the price bracket, however you do get a lot on offer for that price. While the market is competitive for Wire Free security systems with Arlo and Ring being some of the main contenders we see great value in opting for the OMNA DCS-2802KT. If you’re on the prowl for a decent security camera system, the OMNA DCS-2802KT is certainly worth taking a look at.
