As the tests have proven, the Aegis Secure Key 3z isn’t a performance oriented drive by any means but still manages decent enough performance to not make your work inefficient. There are countless number of other options out there if performance was your goal. However when it comes to data security the Aegis Secure Key 3z is certainly good as it gets for a portable storage medium.
If was was tossing between the Aegis Secure Key 3z and the iStorage Datashur Pro, I would go with the Aegis Secure Key 3z simply because it’s slightly cheaper and the fact that it performs better. Also I find the keypad inputs easier to use. On the other hand we found the Aegis Secure Key 3z would run much hotter than the iStorage Datashur Pro after continuous usage. This isn’t a flaw but just something you need to be aware of.
For corporate environments that need to configure multiple devices in one go, Apricorn also sells a product called the Aegis Configurator which allows you to configure multiple devices at a time. Having worked in IT support in the early days of my career I can simply relate to how helpful the Aegis Configurator can become and would certainly recommend in purchasing the additional device.
Overall we’re very pleased with the Aegis Secure Key 3z even though the 8GB version still costs a hefty $79. Given the fact that cost/GB goes down with increased capacity, I would go with the 16GB or 32GB versions or higher unless you were on a very strict budget. Since one cannot put a price on data security these days, you can have some level of peace of mind by moving all portable USB devices to the Aegis Secure Key 3z; it simply will not disappoint for its intended purpose.
