Firstly we installed the provided software before plugging in the P531. The software is essentially a mixer giving many number of options to choose from for various sound effects and enhancements. Soon as you plug in the P531 to the PC USB port the software pops up into the system tray as an icon.
The beauty of the Arctic Sound P531 is that in order to create 5.1 surround sound they actually have individual drivers for each channel and don’t reply on gimmicks like some other headphone manufactures. For example the subwoofer of the P531 is an actual subwoofer driver and not a vibrator which some mid – high end manufactures surprisingly still use. As a result the overall sound quality is undoubtedly beyond compare to anything I have listened upto date. I was comparing the Arctic Cooling P531 with another gaming headset from Sennheiser and even though the P531 is considerably cheaper the overall experience was far greater than what was achieve through my pair of Sennheiser headphones. The bass effects were deep and had a great punch and upto the point; mid ranges were clear and the highs were good enough that warrants no complaints.
Testing out the 5.1 surround sound capabilities I played a few games as well as some action movies. I do not understand the technology behind these headphones however even though they may not replace a true surround sound home theatre system, the experience is still very much enjoyable. I found that my gaming experience was much more fulfilling due to the extra effects produced by the P531.
Conclusion
Even though Arctic Sound are a new entrant to the audio arena they have done a remarkable job with this P531 gaming headset. Don’t let the cheap price fool you as they certainly surpass most high-end headsets that are double or more in price. I truly wish more people were aware of Arctic Sound’s gaming headsets as they seem to offer the best bang for your buck. If you’re looking for a good gaming headset while at the same time want to enjoy good music and movies I cannot think of a better alternative to the Arctic Sound P531 considering this is offered at a mere US$65, so it’s without doubt an absolute recommendation from us.
