The Arctic Sound P531 comes in a silver box with a transparent clear cover in the center giving a good view of the P531 inside. Arctic Sound have ensured that all the important components are made visible to potential buyers by accentuating the boom mic, USB plug and in-line sound controller.
Taking out the Arctic Sound P531 from its box you’d be surprised as to how well built the whole unit is. The ear piece is made of some very soft fabric material with thick cushions and it is designed to twist and turn in multiple angles for easy movement when wearing them. The ear piece can also be turned completely inwards making it very handy when you want to be mobile.
Another aspect I was quite impressed of was the length of the USB cable included with the P531; there’s almost 10 feet of cable included giving ample room to move about while wearing them. USB headsets provide true digital audio processing; as such provided the drivers used in the headset are good you’re bound to hear some impressive audio. Arctic Sound includes their own software with the P531 to be installed on your PC/Laptop which is capable of emulating a 5.1 surround sound environment. We’ll look into this in more detail soon.
One of the most critical parts to consider when purchasing a headset is the comfort factor. If it doesn’t fit snugly to your face, no matter how good the sound is you simply won’t be using it for long. Thankfully the P531 fits my head perfectly and since it has multiple height adjustments on the side I’m sure most people out there would be able to enjoy them. The boom MIC of the P531 works very well and can be turned into any angle you wish for. Communicating with other gamers or simply dictating on speech recognition software, it’s always good to use USB powered headsets as the can really help distortion and improve overall clarity.
Taking a look at the in-line USB controller, it boasts all the controls needed for the headset. In addition to the main volume controls you are offered front, rear center, and sub volume controls giving the user adequate options to customize the output for his/her liking. To be honest I didn’t quite believe that all these controls would work, but amazingly each individual control has its own distinguishable output. Due to the Arctic Cooling P531’s unique design and secure fit, it is able to eliminate any noise interruption from outside sources.
