PC AirCon PAC 400
Introduction
If you ever dreamt of having a total PC cooling system that resembled the functionality of a standard air conditioner, this is where fiction becomes reality. This unique cooling device introduced by Waffer technology is certainly going to change the way people look at cooling their systems.
Waffer technology corporation was incorporated in the early 1950’s, even though their thermal division was incorporated in 2001. Not most of you would have heard of Waffer technology, but I’m sure we all will hear more of this company in the coming months due to this product.
In a nutshell, what the PC AirCon PAC 400 does is, just as the name suggests, it acts as an air conditioner for your PC, blowing in cold air into the system. We’ll be taking a closer look of the inner workings of the PC AirCon PAC 400 soon; first lets take a look at the package and specifications of the unit.

System Operation Requirements
|
It is preferred to run in a system equipped with the power of 350 Watts (or more), and among which a power of 52 Watts is spared at least for PC AirCon PAC 400 operation. |
The unit comes in a basic packaging which however adequately protects the unit during shipment. The PC AirCon PAC 400 is still in its early stages of development and we can expect to see future revisions with much flashier packaging.
PC AirCon in Detail:
The packaging includes the following
* The PC AirCon PAC 400
* Installation Manual
* Required screws to attach the unit to the system
* Fuse (5 x 20 mm L; 5.0 A)
The manual for the system unfortunately doesn’t cover all the details that might be required. However everything is very straight forward and you’ll hardly miss anything, unless for the serious lack of common sense. It seems that this is the initial stages of development of the PC AirCon PAC 400, so once all the minor limitations are identified we’ll see a complete package being offered to the consumer soon.
The PC AirCon PAC 400 comes in two units. The base unit is where all the magic happens, and the bracket is what’s attached to a 5 ¼ bay in the PC.

Before going to greater detail it’s important to know how this unit works. The principle of it based on thermoelectric cooling or better known as Peltier cooling. How a peltier works is, when DC current is applied to the Peltier one of its sides heats up while the other side cools. As long as the heating surface is kept well cooled the opposite surface will continue to cool better. Using this technology Waffer Corp have designed the PC AirCon by blowing air into the cooling surface of the peltier, hence creating an air conditioner effect inside the PC.

As you can see in the picture of the main base unit, the top part consists of a standard Aluminum CPU cooler along with a cooling fan. This is used to cool down the Peltier once it’s turned on. The fan at the bottom acts as a blower, which directs cool air into the system. The good aspect of this cooling unit is that, irrespective of the outside temperature, it’ll still continue to direct cool air into the casing since the cooling sections of the PC AirCon PAC 400 sits outside the casing.
The unit also consists of a small LCD display which shows the temperature of the air being blown out of the PC AirCon. The LCD glows in blue when powered on, giving it quite a professional look.

As mentioned before, the PC AirCon attaches to the casing through a special adapter supplied. Unless you use the top most bay of your 5 ¼ drive bays, the PC AirCon PCA 400 will occupy almost 2 drive bays, which can be quite costly for some with midi tower casings. Therefore before you purchase this product, you need to make sure you can spare two 5 ¼ drive bays for proper installation.
The adapter that fits into the casing has a molex power connector in it, which is attached to the PSU. The main PC AirCon unit clips onto this adapter and there’s a locking mechanism to keep it in place.

The PC AirCon PAC 400 has 2 operation modes, namely “Fan” and “Snow” modes. In the fan mode, only the bottom fan is operational and it blows air into the system without any alteration. Once you switch to the “Snow” mode, the top fan starts working which means the Peltier is operational. In this mode the unit cools the incoming air and blows it into the system.
