Jazz Speakers J9938B 5.1 Private Cinema Theater System

Introduction

Jazz speakers has created themselves quite a reputation in the past few years for their cheap yet feature rich speaker systems. Over the past we have brought to you a number of their offerings, namely the J9940 5.1 system, J8902 3.1 Speaker system, and the DE005 and DE006 Dolby digital Decoders. All of these products were very impressive in their respective ways and offered features that would not usually be offered in speaker systems in its price range. I’m sure you would like to take a look at Jazz speaker’s website and see what products interest you.

The audio market for 5.1 speaker systems is undoubtedly a growing one. Every speaker manufacture out there is coming out with newer and better speaker systems to suite consumer demands. Not everyone need to nor can they afford to have a high end home theater system, and knowing these obvious reasons Jazz speakers have come out with a cheaper alternative, the J9938B 5.1 system. Its silver color and sleek design makes it ideal to be placed in a small office or room.

It’s no printing mistake, the total J9940 speaker system is rated at 200RMS and the subwoofer alone is rated at 100RMS. This is serious power people; you can even afford to distribute some to your neighbors. :). When we received this unit from Jazz speakers a few weeks back, me and my colleagues spent a good hour or so simply admiring the design of the speakers, it’s just exquisite.

Alright time to move onto the installation.
Installation of system

The total package weighs in close to around 20kg, and is very well packed to ensure no damage is caused to the speakers during transportation. Opening up the box you are welcomed by the 5 satellites along with a multitude of speaker cables. The good thing about Jazz speakers is that they include enough cables even to cover extreme cases. So you needn’t have to worry yourself in going out to buy additional cables after purchasing this system.

At the bottom of the box you find the subwoofer along with the controller box and remote. All the satellites and controller box connect directly to the sub. The controller box is powered through the sub, so that it eliminates the requirement to have a separate power adapter.

The controller box has two audio inputs. The top 3 inputs are for people who intend to use 5.1 surround sound. The other input is for normal stereo. Remember that you need to have a device capable of 5.1 output if you intend to use the surround sound feature. Most DVD players, Dolby digital Decoders, and new motherboards with built in audio support this feature. If you do not have any such device, fear not, the speakers can still be used through the second connection. The neat thing about the controller box is that you can have for example your DVD player and PC connected to the speakers simultaneously. Simply connect the DVD player’s audio outputs to the 5.1 audio inputs and the other stereo input can be connected from the audio out of your PC.

The included remote has all the required functions you need. Power On/Off, Mute, Input selection, Surround sound +/-, Center Speaker +/-, Subwoofer +/- and Volume +/-. The input selection button allows you to switch from one device to another simply through the press of a button.

Okay time to take a closer look at the speakers…

    Hi,
I got this sounds sytem around 16 years back, and two of the 5 satellite outputs are not functioning anymore.
I am fairly sure I cannot get this fixed (unscrewed the back of the subwoofer and didn’t see any glaring connection issues), but even as a 3.1 system it fills my room with sound.
This is a very good product for such a modest price!

Indeed Chris, it’s a pity you can’t buy their products anymore. Good to see that you’re still enjoying this system after so long.
