Performance of the unit was quite respectable. Only drawback of the Bluetooth technology is its speed. Bluetooth devices can only transfer data at a maximum transfer rate of 1Mbps. In reality it will drop below this due to various obstacles in the pathway. Nevertheless it’s still great for situations that don’t demand high performance. We used the file transfer service to see how well it could transfer files from PC to PC. As the second machine we used a DELL laptop which had built in Bluetooth capability. The maximum distance supported by the Crystal adapter is 10meters; however we placed the 2nd machine in the next room, which was about 5-6 feet away. Next we took about 25MB worth of MP3 songs and proceeded to transfer them to the laptop. The process took about 30 seconds to complete.

Conclusion

The Crystal Bluetooth USB adapter certainly has lived upto its expectations. We had absolutely no issues during installation or while operating the device. The range of this device might be an issue for some, if this is the case you might need to look into the USB dongles we reviewed a while ago, which provides a range of 100 meters. The basic functionality of all these devices is the same however.

Bluetooth technology is certainly catching on around the world.
