Chaintech 7VJDA KT266A Motherboard
As we talked about before, overclocking the 7VJDA proved to be the hard part. Constantly manipulating the DIP switches and jumpers proved to be a tedious task. So I wouldn’t recommend this board if you constantly keep changing your configuration. However if you will be happy with minor adjustments every now and then, the 7VJDA will prove to be a wise choice to go for. While we managed to get the board running at 145MHz this seemed to be the limit for the board. It couldn’t have been any component we used with the system since it was the same configuration used with the rest as well. Nevertheless 145Mhz is very good indeed. I would have preferred if it reached 150Mhz at least, however that was not to be. Maybe someone else might be luckier.
Since the board is offered at a mere $277(NZ) ($121US), this is certainly one of the cheapest KT266A boards you can find. As the tests show the KT266A chipset has yet again ruled the day. While the board doesn’t offer many additional features, it compensates for this by its very low price tag. What’s more the Chaintech 7VJDA’s performance is considerably good, and in real world performance you won’t notice any difference at all.
Overall the Chaintech 7VJDA is a very well engineered board, if not for it’s minor short comings. It would have been nice if Chaintech could have replaced all the DIP switches and jumpers with a Soft BIOS setup, which would have made this board a really sort after one. Nevertheless if you don’t fancy messing with the insides of your PC too much, but require a good performing board which is cheap at the same time, then the 7VJDA is certainly a great buy. It may not offer all the features a top of the range board would offer, but that’s where the price factor kicks in.
