OnStream ECHO 30 USB Storage Drive

Performance

The data transfer rate is given as 0.85MB/sec and to test this we backed up a compressed 360MB file, which took about 7 1/2 minutes (7mts 35 sec’s to be exact) to transfer. So the transfer rate is close to the rated 0.85MB/sec.

You could use the drive for playing back MP3’s or even a video. Playback of MP3’s were quite smooth without any breakups and we have nothing to complain about here either. So all the MP3’s you download using Napster could be well stored on this drive. (Folks, let’s not mention this to the RIAA ok!)

The seek times of the drive is noticeably slower than a HD, but then this is to be expected of a back up drive.

Conclusion

Considering the price, performance and reliability of this drive we believe OnStream has a very quality product here. If you’re out there looking for a portable back up solution OnStream’s ECHO 30 USB storage drive will give your money’s worth.
