Celeron Cooler Guide

Introduction

Like motor racers trying to squeeze out every BHP they can get from their machines, overclockers too are in a similar battle to reach the limits from their PC’s. Overclocking has become such a popular past time, there are literally hundreds of sites out there springing up to cater to these demanding needs of amateur and pro overclockers out there. We could say that the start to hardcore overclocking came to existence after the introduction of the Celeron 300A processor by Intel a few years back. Even today the Celeron 300A processor is considered one of the best overclockers ever to be produced.

At that time overclocking wasn’t a household term as it is today. It was left to the bold and the pro hardware geeks. However few months after the release of the Celeron 300A processor, everybody out there wanted to try their hands on this new craze. Today overclocking has blown to its full bloom and all the cooler manufactures are evidence to this craze.

In a tribute to this good old processor, which introduced us to this wonderful world of overclocking, we decided to get some of the best Celeron coolers out there and check out its limits. I know there are a load of people out there who still have one of these processors lying around in the attic, so we are here to show you why you should take a second look at this lovely CPU. Unfortunately we weren’t able to obtain a Celeron 300A processor, but we did manage to get a Celeron 333 processor. I know it doesn’t overclock as much as the 300A, nevertheless it is still capable of going a long way indeed.

To any form of overclocking the most important aspect is cooling the CPU adequately. Not only does proper cooling enable you to maintain a stable system under high stress situations, it also preserves the life of your processor. Some of you might resort to a good peltier and water cooling, but for a Celeron 333 a good heatsink + fan combo will do just fine. So take a look at the contenders we chose for our overclocking project.

The contenders

Alright we searched inside out the web to find out which manufactures produce the best Celeron coolers. To our surprise not many are focussing on producing these coolers anymore and we just managed to get our hands on three coolers provided to us by Coolerguys, 3Dfx Cool.com and TheCardCooler.com.

Here are the coolers in consideration;

1. Alpha P125c Celeron cooler kit by Coolerguys.com
2. Cel-Rex Cooler by 3Dfx Cool.com
3. FAB28 Cooler by Thecardcooler.com

After I ordered them only did I notice that the Cel-Rex Cooler by 3DfxCool and the FAB28 Cooler by Thecardcooler.com are in fact the same thing, except for the fact that 3Dfx adds in two extra fans to their cooler and call it the Cel-Rex. Anyway we are here to see how well these coolers perform, so let’s get to it. We’ll be taking a look at the Cel-Rex and the FAB28 together since they are simply the same cooler.
