Aqualia Water cooling kit

Introduction

When it comes to cooling your CPU there are three main options to choose from these days, namely: Air cooling, Water cooling and phase change cooling. Ever since overclocking came into the picture, water cooling has been the best bet average PC users could use to have decent performance in overclocked conditions. The simplest reason for this is that water cooling does not require you to rob a bank and is quite simple to install. Today there are many all-in-one water cooling solutions which are complete kits that hardly require any kind of major installation. Not only are these kits easily installable by even an amateur user, they are quite cheap. However one of the biggest criticisms these bolt-on kits are facing is that they don’t perform even as well as conventional air cooling heatsinks. Nevertheless today we bring to you this new water cooling solution from PowerCooler called the “Aqualia water cooling kit”.

The Unit

The kit comes complete with everything that’s required to get you started on water cooling. The kit includes the following components;

1. Aqualia 5.25 Water Cooling Drive
2. Copper waterblock
3. AMD CPU clipping mechanism
4. P4 adapter for Pentium 4 boards
5. P4 CPU clips
6. Silver thermal paste
7. Water bottle with a needle type nozzle
8. User manual, screws and power cords.

The main unit is attached onto a free 5 ΒΌ drive bay. It’s recommended that you do not place any other device on top of the water cooling unit since it’ll significantly limit its cooling capacity. Even under the current circumstances, the cooling power of the radiator is quite questionable considering the limited area it uses. Nevertheless the good thing about this unit is that it’s so simple to install and will have you moving in no time. Both the radiator and the reservoir reside on one single frame as seen in the picture.

The cooling fans you see here are 70mm fans rotating at 3300rpm. As a result the unit hardly makes any noise when turned on. This is great if you’re currently fed up of hearing to those jet engines installed in your system. At the same time however, the lower speeds could also mean degraded cooling performance. As a saying goes, “there’s no such thing as a free meal”.

The water pump resides inside the reservoir, which operates at 7000rpm. It operates through the 12v given from the PSU of your machine.

For added safety, the new Aqualia models released by power cooler will include an alarm which will emit a high pitched sound in the unlikely event the pump stops working.

Below is a picture showing the connections at the rear of the unit.
