OCZ MOD XSTREAM 780W Power Supply Unit
Introduction
One of the main complaints we had with our recently reviewed Tagan 2 Force II 900W Cross Fire certified Power Supply Unit was that it did not provide any modular setup. So regardless of you needing a particular power cable or not you were stuck with it, restricting airflow and making the internal setup messier. This is where the new modular setup power supplies come into solve the problem. Modular power supplies give us the ability to only connect the power cables you require for your system, preventing any cluttering of your PC.
OCZ has addressed this popular demand and today we look at their MOD XTREAM 780W Power supply unit. The MOD XTREAM comes in a 780W and 900W model, so it’s directly marketed towards the higher end enthusiast segment looking for a modular design.
The Mod XTREAM comes in a very attractive packaging highlighting the key features of this PSU. The good thing with OCZ’s power supply units (PSU) is that they offer a 36 month exclusive power swap warranty, so if anything goes wrong with PSU within a 3 year period you can be at peace knowing OCZ will take care of the problem. This benefit is proudly displayed on the packaging as well. The packaging also lists RAIL voltage levels giving you enough information to make a sound decision before your purchase.
Package Contents
Opening up the package you’re offered with a small booklet detailing the specifications and installation instructions. The main component visible in the PSU is its huge 120mm cooling fan. There are 4 wires from the PSU which are permanently connected to it, like a conventional PSU, namely the power cable to the mainboard and CPU. Everything else is neatly packed on the side and depending on your requirements they can be plugged into the unit. The modular cables consist of 2 SATA connector cables with 6 connectors, 2 x 4-pin peripheral connector cables (4 molex connectors in total and 2 Floppy drive connectors), 1 x PCI Express connector cable and two 4-pin CPU auxiliary connector.
